Why is Work Experience Important?
Work experience gives you a good insight into the lives of healthcare professionals. It exists in order to give applicants a realistic view of medicine/dentistry (including the hardhsips that may come with working in a clinical environment. Work experience is a good method to explore that, but equally wider reading can be effective in removing an applicant's rosy view about medicine. So, don't fret if you struggle to find enough work experience; universities are aware of the difficulty of obtaining some.
It is therefore not just a box to tick in your application. Work experience exists to ensure that you are making the right decision to pursue medicine/dentistry.
